Melissa Marmol

Lead Animator - Harmonix Music Systems

About Me

My name is Melissa and I am currently an Animator working at Harmonix Music Systems.

Although the purpose of this site is to show people my work, I believe there is a lot of value in knowing what makes people tick, so here are some random facts about me that I hope you will enjoy!

I love video games, and I completely blame my younger brothers for this. Our dad introduced him to video games in the 90s with Super Mario Bros, and he was hooked. Eventually, I started being interested in games since both my brothers were having so much fun playing. The earliest game I can remember truly enjoying was Sonic on the Dreamcast. Today, I play games like World of Warcraft (for the horde!), Monster Hunter and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild.

Being an animator never occurred to me as a valid career path (actually I still think this is true, because anyone who calls themselves an animator is crazy, but we do it cause we love it!). I always wanted to be an Architect. I remember growing up and always wanting to build my parents their perfect house. This was my dream. After really diving into it in high school, I quickly found out that architect wasn't for me. It just wasn't fun. I've always been interested in drawing and I loved watching animated films, so in college and I took a risk and decided to major in Animation. This was probably the best decision I ever made.

One of my proudest accomplishment is landing an internship at Dreamworks while I was in college. I learned a lot during my internship and will be forever grateful for that experience. Being surrounded by so many talented people was really overwhelming for me, and I found myself comparing my skills to the professionals constantly (a huge mistake, given I was a total scrub, but at the time I couldn't help it). After I graduated college I decided to give Animation Mentor a try, and fell in love with animation all over again.

If you made it all the way to the end, thank you for taking the time to learn a little bit more about myself. Everyone has a story to tell, so I am glad you got to know me a little better.

TLDR: I love video games and my family. Originally wanted to be an Architect, but ain't nobody got time for that! Was an intern at Dreamworks and attended Animation Mentor.
